This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Montreal Canadiens have gone winless in their last eight games, for the second time this season. Last Saturday they suffered an OT loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins which accounts for the only point gained over the last eight games. They followed up that loss with losses to the Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings (for the third time this season) and the Edmonton Oilers.
  • Brendan Gallagher returned to the lineup in the Habs second encounter with Connor McDavid and the Oilers, just nine days after suffering a concussion. The following day, Claude Julien told the media that Gallagher was dealing with headaches. It is yet to be determined whether they are linked to his concussion. Rick and Joe discuss the handling of Gallagher’s situation.
  • Comments from comedy icon, Larry David, regarding New York Rangers rookie Kaapo Kakko, which criticized Rangers coach David Quinn, also applies to Claude Julien’s handling of young players.
  • Taking a look at the standings and looking at how likely the playoffs are for the Montreal Canadiens.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • Given the Montreal Canadiens currently find themselves winless in their last eight games (again), what are the biggest problems facing the Montreal Canadiens? Rick and Joe take a look at the organization and look at potential solutions for the problems we have seen this season and particularly over this eight-game stretch.
  • With the trade deadline just over a month away, who might be a good candidate for the Canadiens to sell, should they go that route?

Segment 3: Have Your Say

  • Reading your responses to the Canadiens Connection question of the week: As a seller, which players can Marc Bergevin realistically move by the trade deadline?
  • Listener’s calls and texts
  • Bad tweet of the week

This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • After a successful trip out west, the Canadiens continued their road trip with two games in Florida against the Lightning and Panthers, before concluding their trip in Raleigh for a opening night rematch with the Hurricanes. They then returned home for a rematch with Tampa Bay. Montreal came out of those four games winless. Rick and Joe discuss the four-game losing streak.
  • When it rains it pours. The Montreal Canadiens lost Brendan Gallagher to a concussion this week in the game against Carolina. He joins Joel Armia, Paul Byron, Jonathan Drouin and Matthew Peca on IR.
  • Team USA was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Juniors by Finland, which means Habs prospects Cole Caufield and Jordan Harris are out.
  • Taking a look at the standings and looking at how likely the playoffs are for the Montreal Canadiens.
  • Michael McNiven’s journey of a season continues being recalled by the Laval Rocket but did not physically join the club as they are looking to assign him to another ECHL club. Charlie Lindgren looked very good in his first backup role of the season for the Canadiens.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • Marc Bergevin was active this week with a pair of trades involving and a signing. Thursday night, he traded Mike Reilly to Ottawa for a 5th round pick and forward Andrew Sturtz, before trading a 4th round pick to Buffalo for Marco Scandella. He followed that up on Friday by signing 36-year-old forward Ilya Kovalchuk to a one-year, two-way deal.
  • With the moves made this week, where does Montreal stand with just over a month until the NHL Trade Deadline?

Segment 3: Have Your Say

This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Canadiens clued up their trip to Western Canada just before Christmas. Last week they lost 4-3 to Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers, but they bounced back with a resounding 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Rick and Joe discuss the successful trip, players who impressed and things for the Canadiens to work on.
  • The injuries continue to mount with Joel Armia joining the injured list. Luckily, Victor Mete has returned to the lineup and Jesperi Kotkaniemi has been cleared for contact.
  • In a loss to the Toronto Marlies last night, Keith Kinkaid surrendered three goals in less than a minute of play and received some mock cheers from the Place Bell faithful for his efforts.
  • As we approach the end of the decade, Rick and Joe hit the rewind button and reminisce about their favourite moments from the 2010’s!

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That means it’s time for the World Junior Hockey Championships! The Montreal Canadiens are well-represented at the tournament with big names like Cole Caufield and Alexander Romanov who have garnered a lot of attention from Habs fans, and lesser known players like Jordan Harris and Mattias Norlinder.
  • The guys point out prospects from other teams that have caught their attention in the early going of the tournament, particularly those who belong to division rivals of the Canadiens.

Segment 3: Have Your Say

This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • After a tough loss to Detroit in the Habs final home game of 2019, the Montreal Canadiens headed out on the road for the Western Canadian road trip. They bounced back with a pair of wins over the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames. Rick and Joe discuss the “Road Warriors” Montreal Canadiens.
  • In a press conference this week, Marc Bergevin said he would not “mortgage the future” to make an improvement to this team.
  • Taylor Hall was dealt to Arizona this week for a package of picks and prospects that was headlined by prospect defenceman, Kevin Bahl. This was a trade that sparked a lot of debate on social media, including amongst Habs fans.
  • We check in with the Laval Rocket as they have dealt with some injuries to Alex Belzile and Charles Hudon.
  • Michael McCarron will most likely be facing some supplemental discipline for his actions against the Utica Comets.
  • After being sent down following his first career NHL win, Cayden Primeau’s struggles in the AHL have continued.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • “Culture” is a word thrown around quite a lot in professional sports. For a team to be successful for a prolonged period of time, the culture that surrounds that club needs to be a positive one. Rick and Joe take a look at the culture that has surrounded the Montreal Canadiens since Marc Bergevin has taken over as the General Manager of the organization.
