  • The Laval Rocket opened camp with 32 players in attendance. The Canadiens announced affiliation with the new ECHL franchise in Trois-Rivières.

  • Noah Juulsen was claimed on waivers earlier this week by the Florida Panthers. Meanwhile, all other Canadiens players who were put through waivers cleared. 
  • The Habs announced five members of their six player taxi squad, which includes Michael Frolik, Corey Perry, Ryan Poehling, Cale Fleury and Charlie Lindgren. Jake Evans was assigned to the taxi squad after the first game for cap reasons. 
  • Rick and Joe share their thoughts on the Habs opening night performance. Who impressed? Who disappointed? How did the newcomers perform? The guys give their thoughts on all of those questions. 
  • Player agent Jeff Jackson tweeted that the NHL doesn’t do enough to protect star players. 
  • They Said What? – Alexander Romanov’s first media availability.
  • Hockey notes – 27 players test positive for the coronavirus as the season opens. The 2020-21 season is underway, what’s different? NHL opened the season to record TV ratings. 

Segment 2: To Dubois or not to Dubois?

  • This week Columbus Blue Jackets head coach confirmed the reports that centre Pierre-Luc Dubois wants out of Columbus. This alone would be quite enough for Habs fans to start connecting the Quebec-born centre to the Canadiens, but Nick Kypreos poured some gasoline on the fire with his report that the Habs are Dubois’ preferred destination. Blue Jackets ask is now focused around Nick Suzuki plus additional pieces, Alexander Romanov has been deemed untouchable. 
  • We take a look back to the 2016 NHL Draft, the roots of Marc Bergevin’s interest in Pierre-Luc Dubois. 
  • Should the Canadiens trade Suzuki plus additional pieces for Dubois? Jesperi Kotkaniemi? Would Romanov be a better alternative for the Habs to deal?

  • The Canadiens signed forward Corey Perry to a one-year contract worth $750,000. This comes a week after the Habs signed Michael Frolik to an identical contract.
  • The roster for Canadiens training camp has been released, camp is set to open Sunday.
  • World Junior Championship report – With group play having come to an end, Rick and Joe give their thoughts on the tournament and players who have stood out to them. They take a deeper look at the play of the three Canadiens prospects involved in the tournament, Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield and Jan Mysak.
  • They Said What? – Michael Frolik and Corey Perry spoke to the media this week after the veteran forwards both signed one-year deals with the Canadiens.
  • Hockey notes – AHL Board of Governors approve framework for season to begin on February 5th. The Washington Capitals signed Zdeno Chara to a one-year contract. Columbus Blue Jackets re-sign Pierre-Luc Dubois to 2-year contract. NHL will play two outdoor games in Lake Tahoe, Nevada in February, February 20: Colorado Avalanche vs Vegas Golden Knights and February 21: Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers. P.K. Subban and Lindsay Vonn break up after three years.

  • The Canadiens have signed their 2020 first round pick, Kaiden Guhle, to a three-year entry-level contract.
  • They Said What? – We heard from Claude Julien this week as he gave his thoughts on the changes we have seen Marc Bergevin make this off-season. He also touched on the Max Domi situation, what to expect from Alexander Romanov and what the line combinations might look like this season.
  • Corey Pronman posted an updated ranking of NHL prospect systems in The Athletic following the 2020 NHL Draft. The latest ranking has them falling two spots to #11, with the Flames and Kings leapfrogging them into the top 10.
  • With the NHL still targeting a January 1 start date for the 2020-21 season, news came down that the league has cancelled the 2021 Winter Classic and 2021 All-Star Game.

Segment 2: Canadiens 2020-21 Lineup

  • After the roster changes we have seen so far in the off-season for the Canadiens, Rick and Joe take a look at what the forward lines and defence pairings might look like heading into the 2020-21 season.
