  • Roster news – Tyler Toffoli out with a lower body injury, was not scheduled to play all three games against Edmonton. Joel Armia and Jesperi Kotkaniemi on the NHL’s COVID protocol list. The Canadiens have acquired Eric Staal from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a third and a fifth round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
  • Habs prospect report – Jordan Harris has chosen to return to Northeastern for his senior year. NCAA Regional tournaments began on Friday with Habs prospects participating: Cole Caufield, Jack Gorniak, Blake Biondi, Arvid Henrikson, Luke Tuch. Bemidji State upset Wisconsin 6-3 on Friday to end the tournament for Caufield and Gorniak and coach Tony Granato. Check out The Press Zone – Montreal.
  • Marc Bergevin media availability this week regarding the COVID situation and game postponements.
  • NHL News – Referee Tim Peel will no longer work games now or in the future. NHL players moving from the United States to Canada will now be required to only quarantine for seven days, down from 14.
  • Sean Burke, Director of Goaltending, has his first media availability.

  • Roster news – Ben Chiarot had surgery on his right hand on Monday, he will miss 6-8 weeks. Paul Byron cleared waivers on Wednesday. Sean Burke participated in his first practice in his new role on Friday. Habs equipment manager Pierre Gervais recognized for 3000 games.
  • Habs prospect report – Cole Caufield has been named Big Ten Player of the Year. Caufield scored game tying and game winning goals in semi-finals, but his Badgers lost to the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten championship on Tuesday. Frozen Four Regional participants to be selected on Sunday. Jordan Harris considering joining the Canadiens now that his NCAA season is done. Ryan Poehling is heating up for the Rocket.   • There have been new members of the Canadiens who have been key additions on the ice and as leaders, the guys react to comments from newcomers Corey Perry and Josh Anderson.
  • With Ben Chiarot out of the lineup, the Canadiens have been forced to reconfigure their defensive pairings. Rick and Joe discuss how the new look pairings have performed and react to a clip from Shea Weber discussing the adjustments of playing with a new partner. Could the Habs make a move for some help on the blueline?
  • Overtime losses continue to pile up for the Canadiens, with two more this week they are now 0-9 in extra time. The guys take a look at Dominique Ducharme’s strategy for overtime and discuss slow starts.

  • The Florida Panthers have signed forward Anthony Duclair to a one-year contract. The guys take a look around at the remaining UFAs with the season just around the corner.
  • Former Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty has been the subject of some trade rumours out of Vegas. He said the rumours are “lightweight stuff” after playing in Montreal.
  • Canadiens prospect report – Habs prospect Jordan Harris named Hockey East player of the week. Joni Ikonen has been skating and could return soon. Alexander Gordin with a three-point game on Friday.
  • World Junior Championship report – The Canadiens will have three players in the tournament: Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield and Jan Mysak. Kirby Dach named captain of team Canada with Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram as the alternates. 10 positive COVID-19 tests at WJC on Friday.
  • Arrests have been made after the theft of Wayne Gretzky memorabilia from the house of Walter Gretzky.
  • NHL Return to Play – The NHL and NHLPA have reached a tentative agreement for a 56-game season that will begin on January 13th. Questions still remain on how it will look, including whether the entire season will be played in the United States. Quebec premier, Francois Legault says the province’s health restrictions will not be an obstacle for the Canadiens.

Segment 2: WJC 2021: The Most Wonderful Time

  • Rocket Sports Junior Hockey specialist, Mike Raschle, joins the show to preview the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships. Rick and Joe talk with Mike about Team Canada and his expectations entering the tournament. Who poses the biggest challenge to Canada? Will Canada get stability between the pipes? The guys discuss this and more!
