Canadiens prospect report – Habs prospect Cole Caufield is headed to the American World Junior camp after an up and down week with the Wisconsin Badgers. While 2020 second round pick Jan Mysak is headed to World Junior camp for the Czech Republic. Scoring highlights of the week.
They Said What? – Habs assistant coaches Dominic Ducharme and Luke Richardson spoke to the media this week, while development coach Francis Bouillon also had an availability.
Around the Hockey World – Gary Bettman says the NHL is “taking their time” planning for a new season. A new proposal of a 56-game season that would start January 15th came to light. With the ongoing disputes between the NHL and NHLPA, fans are assigning blame.

Segment 2: 25th Anniversary of the Patrick Roy Trade

December 6th marks the 25th anniversary of the infamous Patrick Roy trade that saw the Canadiens trade their franchise goaltender to the Colorado Avalanche that saw the Canadiens net a rather underwhelming package of players. Rick and Joe take a look back at the circumstances surrounding the deal as we approach the 25th anniversary of the transaction.

Deacon Sports and Entertainment announced the appointment of three senior leaders for their new ECHL franchise in Trois-Rivères
Canadiens prospect report – Hockey Canada shuts down their National Junior selection camp in Red Deer. Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s loan with Pori Assat has come to an end. Cole Caufield netted a hat-trick against Penn State. Jordan Harris and Jayden Struble are in quarantine with the rest of their team at Northeastern University.
They Said What? – Kirk Muller spoke with the media this week, touching on a variety of subjects, including training camp, the Canadiens power play, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and much more.
Looking back on the 2009-2010 season: Rick and Joe share their memories of a season that was full of celebration and optimism.

Segment 2: Feels Like 2010: Interview with Annakin Slayd

Rick and Joe are joined by Montreal hip-hop artist and sports fan, Annakin Slayd. Slayd touched on all of the optimism that surrounded the 2009-10 season, punctuated by his song “Feels like ’93“. Slayd also touches on the return of that optimism following the Canadiens improbable playoff run in the bubble.

They Said What – Habs strength and conditioning coordinator Patrick Delisle-Houde spoke to the media this week. He touched on Shea Weber, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, changes to his role during the pandemic and more!
NHL reveals reverse-retro jerseys for all 31 teams.
NHL and NHLPA have been in the news this week after the NHL asked for some tweaks to the CBA agreement agreed to early in the pandemic
ECHL announced all teams in the North division will suspend play for the 2020-21 season.
Marc Bergevin interview with TVA, touching on ECHL plans, Phillip Danault contract negotiations and his prediction for the all-Canadian division.

Segment 2: All-Canadian or Atlantic division?

With the uncertainty surrounding how the upcoming season will unfold, Rick and Joe ask the question: Would the Canadiens have a better chance of making the Playoffs in the Atlantic division, or the Canadian division that has been talked about as a possibility for this season?
A survey from The Athletic shows that Canadiens fans have very high hopes with regards to making the Playoffs this season.

Segment 2: Canadiens Rise in Off-Ice Rankings

Rick and Joe take a look at a pair of polls from The Athletic, one ranking NHL front offices and the other a survey of NHL agents discussing the off-season and much more. In both, the reviews of the Canadiens are favourable. In the front office ranking they are up six spots from last year to No. 14. In the agent survey, they took top spot in the question asking which team had the best off-season.

André Tourigny, who will be the head coach of Team Canada at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships, took the opportunity to heap some praise on the Canadiens first round selection Kaiden Guhle.
Corey Pronman of The Athletic ranked the top 155 NHL players under the age of 23. The Canadiens feature six players in his ranking, the highest being Nick Suzuki at #27.

The Canadiens have signed their 2020 first round pick, Kaiden Guhle, to a three-year entry-level contract.
They Said What? – We heard from Claude Julien this week as he gave his thoughts on the changes we have seen Marc Bergevin make this off-season. He also touched on the Max Domi situation, what to expect from Alexander Romanov and what the line combinations might look like this season.
Corey Pronman posted an updated ranking of NHL prospect systems in The Athletic following the 2020 NHL Draft. The latest ranking has them falling two spots to #11, with the Flames and Kings leapfrogging them into the top 10.
With the NHL still targeting a January 1 start date for the 2020-21 season, news came down that the league has cancelled the 2021 Winter Classic and 2021 All-Star Game.

Segment 2: Canadiens 2020-21 Lineup

After the roster changes we have seen so far in the off-season for the Canadiens, Rick and Joe take a look at what the forward lines and defence pairings might look like heading into the 2020-21 season. The Canadiens have loaned Jesperi Kotkaniemi to Assat Pori of the Finnish Elite League.
The Canadiens signed Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract worth $17 million.
Jake Allen and the Habs came to an agreement on a two-year contract extension with an AAV of $2.875 million.
The Canadiens signed Brendan Gallagher to a six-year contract extension worth $39 million.
They Said What? – Hearing from Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Gallagher on their new contracts, as well as Marc Bergevin.
Around the NHL: Eugene Melnyk believes the Ottawa Senators will win a Stanley Cup within four years.

Segment 2: Winning in Quebec

Former Canadiens defenceman and General Manager, Serge Savard, spoke this week about the debacle surrounding the Canadiens selections in the 2020 NHL Draft and the lack of players selected from Quebec. He criticized Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmons for not valuing Quebec talent as much as talent from Moose Jaw. Bergevin responded to that criticism from Savard.

The week started with the Canadiens qualifying RFAs: Max Domi,
Charles Hudon, Victor Mete, Xavier Ouellet and Noah Juulsen.
The Canadiens placed Karl Alzner on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buying out the remaining two years of his contract.
The Canadiens sign Noah Juulsen to a one-year, two-way contract.
The team also came to an agreement on a one-year contract with Victor Mete.
Xavier Ouellet is back in the fold, after he also signed a new two-year, two-way contract with the Habs.
Canadiens have signed Brandon Baddock to a one-year, two-way contract.
The Canadiens traded Max Domi and a 3rd round pick to Columbus in exchange for Josh Anderson. The Habs then signed Anderson to a seven-year deal worth $38.5 million.
They Said What – Domi and Anderson edition. Hearing from both parties involved in the trade between Montreal and Columbus.

Segment 2: The NHL Entry Draft

Rick and Joe take a look at the Canadiens performance at the 2020 NHL Draft. Last week the guys each provided three players the Canadiens could target with the 16th pick, the Habs did not end up picking on of those players, instead selecting Kaiden Guhle. The later rounds saw the Canadiens select Luke Tuch, Jan Mysak, Jack Smith, Blake Biondi, Sean Farrell, Jakub Dobes and Alexander Gordin.

The team also came to an agreement with Michael McNiven on a one-year, two-way contract.
They Said What? – Marc Bergevin was on TSN Montreal and touched on a variety of subjects including his thoughts on the 2019-20 season, Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin.
The Bergevin media tour was in full force. He also touched on Cole Caufield, the NHL Draft and Free Agency amongst other subjects.

Rick and Joe turn their attention to the upcoming 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Canadiens have the 16th overall pick, which is not where anyone expected them to be before their improbable playoff run.
