  • Canadiens Christmas Concert – Diane Bibaud played some lovely renditions of Christmas songs and some Canadiens players sent out holiday greetings.
  • A picture of Brendan Gallagher in the new reverse retro Canadiens jersey was posted to social media.

  • Around the Hockey World – NHL targets a January 13th start with training camps set to open January 3rd, but it would be December 31st for teams who did not participate in the bubble. NHL/NHLPA leaning towards a 56-game schedule. Montreal will play in the all-Canadian division. NHL has proposed an expanded roster framework to the players. Cross-border trades will be allowed but quarantine periods will be respected. NHL intends to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for players

  • This week, Habs beat writer Mathias Brunet argued that the 2020-21 edition of the Montreal Canadiens could be the best Habs roster in 25 years. Do you agree? Rick and Joe discuss the possibility of this team being the best Habs team constructed in the last 25 years.

  • The Canadiens have loaned Jesperi Kotkaniemi to Assat Pori of the Finnish Elite League. 
  • The Canadiens signed Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract worth $17 million.

  • Jake Allen and the Habs came to an agreement on a two-year contract extension with an AAV of $2.875 million. 

  • The Canadiens signed Brendan Gallagher to a six-year contract extension worth $39 million. 
  • They Said What? – Hearing from Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Gallagher on their new contracts, as well as Marc Bergevin. 
  • Around the NHL: Eugene Melnyk believes the Ottawa Senators will win a Stanley Cup within four years. 

Segment 2: Winning in Quebec

  • Former Canadiens defenceman and General Manager, Serge Savard, spoke this week about the debacle surrounding the Canadiens selections in the 2020 NHL Draft and the lack of players selected from Quebec. He criticized Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmons for not valuing Quebec talent as much as talent from Moose Jaw. Bergevin responded to that criticism from Savard.

  • The Canadiens have signed goaltender Vasily Demchenko to a one-year, two-way contract.
  • Defenceman Alexei Marchenko is not going to sign an extension with his KHL club, CSKA Moscow. The Canadiens are reportedly a team that are interested in his services.
  • Eric Engels said based on his information that it is “all but assured” Ilya Kovalchuk will be back with the Habs next season. The guys discuss the possibility of the 37-year-old returning to the club.
  • In a conference call, Brendan Gallagher touched on the idea of signing a contract extension with the Canadiens, also saying that he didn’t believe that negotiations would become a distraction.
  • The NHL has floated around the idea of holding the Draft before awarding the Stanley Cup. After the NFL draft this week, Rick and Joe discuss what the NHL could have learned from how the NFL handled their draft.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • As the NHL has insisted over the last few weeks, they are looking at all possible options for resumption of play. One of the options that was discussed this week was Hub Cities where games would be played in NHL cities that have not been hit too hard by the Coronavirus. The desire for games to be played in NHL arenas is what makes this idea more intriguing than some of the neutral sites that have been discussed in previous weeks.
