  • Ilya Kovalchuk remains an unsigned free agent. François Gagnon wrote an article for RDS detailing why the aging winger does not make sense for the Canadiens. 
  • Montreal mayor, Valérie Plante, closes all sports facilities including Bell Sports Complex.

  • Rick and Joe are joined by Chris G to discuss the NHL expansion draft set to take place following the 2020-21 season. Following an article written by Chris earlier in the week, the guys take a look at who the Canadiens should have on their protection list and who might be exposed to the Seattle Kraken.

  • The Canadiens have signed their 2020 first round pick, Kaiden Guhle, to a three-year entry-level contract.
  • They Said What? – We heard from Claude Julien this week as he gave his thoughts on the changes we have seen Marc Bergevin make this off-season. He also touched on the Max Domi situation, what to expect from Alexander Romanov and what the line combinations might look like this season.
  • Corey Pronman posted an updated ranking of NHL prospect systems in The Athletic following the 2020 NHL Draft. The latest ranking has them falling two spots to #11, with the Flames and Kings leapfrogging them into the top 10.
  • With the NHL still targeting a January 1 start date for the 2020-21 season, news came down that the league has cancelled the 2021 Winter Classic and 2021 All-Star Game.

Segment 2: Canadiens 2020-21 Lineup

  • After the roster changes we have seen so far in the off-season for the Canadiens, Rick and Joe take a look at what the forward lines and defence pairings might look like heading into the 2020-21 season. Where will new acquisitions Josh Anderson and Tyler Toffoli slot into the lineup? Have Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi passed Phillip Danault on the depth chart? The guys discuss that and more!

  • Habs prospects Cole Caufield and Jayden Struble have been invited to Team USA Junior camp.
  • The Canadiens sign Jake Lucchini to a one-year, two-way contract.
  • The team also came to an agreement with Michael McNiven on a one-year, two-way contract.
  • They Said What? – Marc Bergevin was on TSN Montreal and touched on a variety of subjects including his thoughts on the 2019-20 season, Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin.
  • The Bergevin media tour was in full force. He also touched on Cole Caufield, the NHL Draft and Free Agency amongst other subjects.

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • Former Habs defenceman Andrei Markov is not expected to return to his current KHL club Lokomotiv for next season. Will the 41-year-old be headed for retirement.
  • Habs forward Charles Hudon has some clubs in the NLA and KHL interested in his services, according to his agent Allain Roy. Roy believes the time could be right for the soon-to-be 26-year-old to make the jump overseas.
  • The Canadiens’ top defensive prospect, Alexander Romanov, could be on his way to Montreal soon and Trevor Timmins provided some insight on both Romanov’s game and his personality.
  • In interviews this week, NHL Commisioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly asserted that the NHL is still hopeful to “salvage the season.” In an appearance on Tim & Sid, Daly said the NHL has yet to establish a “drop-dead date” where the 2019-20 season must be cancelled.
  • One of the avenues that has been considered for a potential resumption of play is neutral sites for games. without fans. Sites that have been discussed are Grand Forks, North Dakota, Manchester, New Hampshire and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Daly added that no neutral site has been vetted by the NHL.
  • Habs coach Claude Julien is preparing for the resumption of play. In an article in the Athletic, Julien discussed how the prospect of a March Madness style tournament for the Playoffs, in which the Canadiens would be included.
  • Paul Byron gave his thoughts on Marc Bergevin in a Q&A with Sportsnet.
  • Cole Caufield is looking forward to his next season at Wisconsin and being “dominant” at the collegiate level.
  • TSN’s Craig Button did a simulated lottery in which the Canadiens’ won big in the lottery and moved up six slots to the second overall pick and snagged Quinton Byfield.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • The guys take a look at the NHL Broadcast Rankings that considered the thoughts of both the opinions of locals and non-locals and give their thoughts on the poll that had the Canadiens finish in the top ten for having a well-regarded broadcast team doing their regional games on TSN.
