  • The Canadiens have signed their 2020 first round pick, Kaiden Guhle, to a three-year entry-level contract.
  • They Said What? – We heard from Claude Julien this week as he gave his thoughts on the changes we have seen Marc Bergevin make this off-season. He also touched on the Max Domi situation, what to expect from Alexander Romanov and what the line combinations might look like this season.
  • Corey Pronman posted an updated ranking of NHL prospect systems in The Athletic following the 2020 NHL Draft. The latest ranking has them falling two spots to #11, with the Flames and Kings leapfrogging them into the top 10.
  • With the NHL still targeting a January 1 start date for the 2020-21 season, news came down that the league has cancelled the 2021 Winter Classic and 2021 All-Star Game.

Segment 2: Canadiens 2020-21 Lineup

  • After the roster changes we have seen so far in the off-season for the Canadiens, Rick and Joe take a look at what the forward lines and defence pairings might look like heading into the 2020-21 season. Where will new acquisitions Josh Anderson and Tyler Toffoli slot into the lineup? Have Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi passed Phillip Danault on the depth chart? The guys discuss that and more!

  • The Canadiens have loaned Jesperi Kotkaniemi to Assat Pori of the Finnish Elite League. 
  • The Canadiens signed Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract worth $17 million.

  • Jake Allen and the Habs came to an agreement on a two-year contract extension with an AAV of $2.875 million. 

  • The Canadiens signed Brendan Gallagher to a six-year contract extension worth $39 million. 
  • They Said What? – Hearing from Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Gallagher on their new contracts, as well as Marc Bergevin. 
  • Around the NHL: Eugene Melnyk believes the Ottawa Senators will win a Stanley Cup within four years. 

Segment 2: Winning in Quebec

  • Former Canadiens defenceman and General Manager, Serge Savard, spoke this week about the debacle surrounding the Canadiens selections in the 2020 NHL Draft and the lack of players selected from Quebec. He criticized Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmons for not valuing Quebec talent as much as talent from Moose Jaw. Bergevin responded to that criticism from Savard.

  • The week started with the Canadiens qualifying RFAs: Max Domi,

    Charles Hudon, Victor Mete, Xavier Ouellet and Noah Juulsen.

  • The Canadiens placed Karl Alzner on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buying out the remaining two years of his contract. 
  • The Canadiens sign Noah Juulsen to a one-year, two-way contract.

  • The team also came to an agreement on a one-year contract with Victor Mete. 
  • Xavier Ouellet is back in the fold, after he also signed a new two-year, two-way contract with the Habs.
  • Canadiens have signed Brandon Baddock to a one-year, two-way contract. 
  • The Canadiens traded Max Domi and a 3rd round pick to Columbus in exchange for Josh Anderson. The Habs then signed Anderson to a seven-year deal worth $38.5 million. 
  • They Said What – Domi and Anderson edition. Hearing from both parties involved in the trade between Montreal and Columbus. 

Segment 2: The NHL Entry Draft

  • Rick and Joe take a look at the Canadiens performance at the 2020 NHL Draft. Last week the guys each provided three players the Canadiens could target with the 16th pick, the Habs did not end up picking on of those players, instead selecting Kaiden Guhle. The later rounds saw the Canadiens select Luke Tuch, Jan Mysak, Jack Smith, Blake Biondi, Sean Farrell, Jakub Dobes and Alexander Gordin.

  • They Said What? – Darren Dreger said Montreal could be a possible destination for Taylor Hall. Is it actually possible the Canadiens net the biggest fish of 2020 Free Agency? Jesperi Kotkaniemi revisits the 2018 NHL Draft. 
  • Corey Pronman of The Athletic released his organizational rankings, ranking the young players of each NHL team. The Canadiens finished ninth in his ranking. 
  • Nick Bjugstad traded from Pittsburgh to Minnesota in exchange for a conditional pick.
  • A report indicated Robin Lehner signed a contract extension with Vegas, but Lehner denied. 
  • NHL Critical dates calendar update. The NHL Draft has been moved up to October 6th and 7th, while Free Agency will commence on the 9th. What happens after the Draft and Free Agency? When will the 2020-21 season start?

Segment 2: Marc Bergevin is Shopping

  • Elliotte Friedman reported that it could be Phillip Danault who might be traded by the Canadiens, instead of Max Domi who has been the source of speculation for the past few weeks. Friedman noted that he’s heard Danault’s name out there and the Habs are at least “testing the market” for him. Rick and Joe discuss this new development for the Montreal Canadiens.

  • Guy Lafleur looking good at 3rd annual Jonathan Drouin golf tournament and spoke about how he’s been feeling after some health scares and about the loss of Dale Hawerchuk.

  • Max Domi removed references to the Montreal Canadiens from his bios on social media. What role did Marc Bergevin’s comments about Domi’s uncertain future have in that?
  • They Said What? Hearing from a handful of Habs players talking about the Playoffs, Brett Kulak, Jeff Petry, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Tomas Tatar. While Phillip Danault voiced some displeasure with his role.  
  • Arizona Coyotes get penalized.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs make a deal centred around Kasperi Kapanen. 
  • Allan Walsh put his client Marc-Andre Fleury in a difficult situation with a social media post that had the hockey world talking. 

Segment 2: Claude Julien Press Conference

  • Claude Julien spoke to the media for the first time since his medical procedure after he experienced chest pains in the Toronto bubble. He updated his status going forward and gave his thoughts on what he saw from his team. Rick and Joe share their thoughts on what we heard from the Habs bench boss.

This Week’s Show: Habs Going Home!

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Flyers won the first round series against the Canadiens in six games. Joe recaps the series. 
  • In the midst of the series against the Flyers, there were two major incidents that took place in Game 5. Jesperi Kotkaniemi was ejected early in the 2nd period of that game for boarding Travis Sanheim. Later on, Matt Niskanen cross-checked Brendan Gallagher in the face that went unpenalized. The Canadiens tweeted a closeup angle of the hit on Twitter to put pressure on the league to suspend Niskanen, especially with Gallagher suffering a broken jaw. But Alain Vigneault created controversy by questioning the severity of the injury. 
  • They Said What? Marc Bergevin and Alain Vigneault comment on the Gallagher injury before Game 6. Reactions from Price, Weber, Hart, Vigneault and Muller after the series wrapped up. Price gives Muller credit for his job as interim head coach. 
  • Dale Hawerchuk passed away this week at the age of 57 after a battle with stomach cancer. Rick and Joe pay tribute to the legend. 

Segment 2: Bergevin’s End of Season Review

  • Following the Canadiens being eliminated on Friday night, the Canadiens GM, Marc Bergevin, spoke with the media on Saturday. He talked about a wide range of topics including the experience this run gave to the Habs young players, an update on Gallagher’s injury, Price and Weber’s phenomenal play and much more! Rick and Joe react to his press conference. 
  • Chuck Fletcher gave credit to the Canadiens for their play in the Playoffs and shared a different view of this off-season than Marc Bergevin did.
