This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Montreal Canadiens have gone winless in their last eight games, for the second time this season. Last Saturday they suffered an OT loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins which accounts for the only point gained over the last eight games. They followed up that loss with losses to the Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings (for the third time this season) and the Edmonton Oilers.
  • Brendan Gallagher returned to the lineup in the Habs second encounter with Connor McDavid and the Oilers, just nine days after suffering a concussion. The following day, Claude Julien told the media that Gallagher was dealing with headaches. It is yet to be determined whether they are linked to his concussion. Rick and Joe discuss the handling of Gallagher’s situation.
  • Comments from comedy icon, Larry David, regarding New York Rangers rookie Kaapo Kakko, which criticized Rangers coach David Quinn, also applies to Claude Julien’s handling of young players.
  • Taking a look at the standings and looking at how likely the playoffs are for the Montreal Canadiens.

Segment 2: The Big Topic

  • Given the Montreal Canadiens currently find themselves winless in their last eight games (again), what are the biggest problems facing the Montreal Canadiens? Rick and Joe take a look at the organization and look at potential solutions for the problems we have seen this season and particularly over this eight-game stretch.
  • With the trade deadline just over a month away, who might be a good candidate for the Canadiens to sell, should they go that route?

Segment 3: Have Your Say

  • Reading your responses to the Canadiens Connection question of the week: As a seller, which players can Marc Bergevin realistically move by the trade deadline?
  • Listener’s calls and texts
  • Bad tweet of the week

They then returned home for a rematch with Tampa Bay. Montreal came out of those four games winless. Rick and Joe discuss the four-game losing streak.

  • Marc Bergevin was active this week with a pair of trades involving and a signing. Thursday night, he traded Mike Reilly to Ottawa for a 5th round pick and forward Andrew Sturtz, before trading a 4th round pick to Buffalo for Marco Scandella. He followed that up on Friday by signing 36-year-old forward Ilya Kovalchuk to a one-year, two-way deal.
  • With the moves made this week, where does Montreal stand with just over a month until the NHL Trade Deadline?

This Week’s Show

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Canadiens clued up their trip to Western Canada just before Christmas. Last week they lost 4-3 to Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers, but they bounced back with a resounding 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Rick and Joe discuss the successful trip, players who impressed and things for the Canadiens to work on.
  • The injuries continue to mount with Joel Armia joining the injured list. Luckily, Victor Mete has returned to the lineup and Jesperi Kotkaniemi has been cleared for contact.
  • In a loss to the Toronto Marlies last night, Keith Kinkaid surrendered three goals in less than a minute of play and received some mock cheers from the Place Bell faithful for his efforts.
  • As we approach the end of the decade, Rick and Joe hit the rewind button and reminisce about their favourite moments from the 2010’s!

  • In a press conference this week, Marc Bergevin said he would not “mortgage the future” to make an improvement to this team.

Segment 1: Week in Review, Habs News, League News

  • The Montreal Canadiens rollercoaster ride continues this week. They picked up two wins this week, against the Islanders and Rangers, while dropping contests to the Flyers, Bruins and Avalanche. Rick and Joe discuss the week that was for the Habs.
  • This past Tuesday, the Habs welcomed former captains to the Bell Centre to celebrate the 110th birthday of the club. Those in attendance included: Yvan Cournoyer, Bob Gainey, Guy Carbonneau, Chris Chelios and Saku Koivu, among others.
  • Marc Bergevin met with Habs prospect defenseman, Alexander Romanov, in Moscow earlier this week, in what was described as being a “positive meeting”.
  • There were reports earlier in the week that the Habs had interest in Bob Hartley to replace Claude Julien behind the Canadiens’ bench. This was later denied by the Habs vice-president of communications, Paul Wilson on Twitter.
